What are Some Common Ingredients in CBD Products?

November 02, 2020

From oils and tinctures to edibles, pre-rolls, and capsules, CBD products come in a number of different forms. Outside of CBD itself, these products can contain a range of different ingredients, including carrier oils, flavorings, and more.

By taking note of the ingredients list, you will be able to:

  • Avoid products that contain potentially harmful ingredients
  • Choose vegan-friendly products, if you are vegan
  • Avoid products with ingredients you’re allergic or sensitive to
  • Take note of products that work better for you

Here are some of the more common ingredients found in CBD products.

What else is found in full-spectrum CBD?

“Full-spectrum CBD” is hemp extract that is high in CBD and contains small amounts of other cannabinoids and terpenes. Both cannabinoids and terpenes are compounds found in hemp and cannabis plants. Each cannabinoid and terpene has its own characteristics.

Common cannabinoids include:

  • Cannabigerol (CBG)
  • Cannabinol (CBN)
  • Cannabichromene (CBC)
  • Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

Common terpenes include:

  • Myrcene
  • Humulene
  • Linalool
  • A-Pinene
  • Beta-Caryophyllene
  • Limonene

If you read the lab report (also known as a certificate of analysis) on your products, you might see a list of different cannabinoids and terpenes. This doesn’t detract from its quality—in fact, many experts recommend full-spectrum CBD over pure CBD. This is because of the “entourage effect” which is the idea that CBD is more effective when used in combination with other cannabinoids.

Full-spectrum CBD also contains small amounts of THC. THC is the cannabinoid that can make you feel high. However, because it’s such a tiny amount, a full-spectrum CBD product will not make you feel intoxicated.

Broad-spectrum CBD products are pretty much the same as full-spectrum CBD, except it usually doesn’t include THC. Many people prefer broad-spectrum products, but it’s really a matter of individual preference.

Common ingredients in CBD oils

CBD oils or tinctures are liquids that include CBD extract suspended in an oil. Some of the common carrier oils in CBD include:

  • Coconut oil, which is what is used in Eve Farms’ CBD oils
  • MCT oil
  • Hemp seed oil
  • Olive oil
  • Grapeseed oil
  • Cranberry seed oil

CBD oils may also contain flavorings or sweeteners to make the oil more palatable.

Many companies also add other natural ingredients to enhance the goodness of CBD. Our broad-spectrum oil, for example, includes ginger. An anti-inflammatory aid, ginger has been used in natural medicine for thousands of years to reduce pain and enhance general health.

Common ingredients in CBD capsules

Some CBD capsules are vegan, and some are not. It depends on whether the capsules are gelatin-based.

Certain CBD capsules include added ingredients. Capsules that are specifically designed to aid sleep might include melatonin, for example. Melatonin is a hormone naturally produced by your body to initiate sleep, and it’s a common sleep supplement that has minimal side-effects.

Our full-spectrum CBD capsules are vegan and contain unflavored CBD oil. Each capsule contains 20mg of CBD. We include no additives or extra ingredients, making it a versatile product that can be used at any time of the day.

Common ingredients in CBD gummies

While many CBD gummies are vegan, others contain gelatin, which is an animal product. If you’re vegan, it’s important to ensure that you opt for CBD gummies that contain no gelatin.

CBD gummies contain flavorings. This may be a natural flavoring, such as fruit juice, or something synthetic. Some contain sweeteners, such as sugar, xylitol, or agave.

Common ingredients in CBD topicals

CBD topicals include products like CBD-infused lotions, balms, oils, and serums. Many companies are combining more cosmetic products, like bath bombs and makeup, with the goodness of CBD.

The ingredients in CBD topicals are much like the ingredients in any normal, non-CBD product. They vary from product to product, and the quality of the ingredients depends on the manufacturer.

If you have sensitive skin, keep this in mind when shopping for CBD topicals. Although some studies suggest CBD can reduce acne and skin inflammation, it’s important to avoid potential irritants.

Common ingredients in CBD pre-rolls

Our CBD pre-rolls contain CBD-rich hemp flower. They’re rolled in paper for your convenience. Our pre-rolls contain no added ingredients—just pure, high-quality hemp.

Our CBD pre-rolls come in three different cultivars: Vibes, Boost, and Balance. Each cultivar has its own unique cannabinoid profile, fragrance, and taste. Experiment with our different cultivars or try our variety bundle.

The best CBD products should include CBD derived from high-quality hemp plants—but it’s also important that they don’t contain any harmful additives. Be sure to check (and double-check) the ingredients list before making a purchase.
